SusConnect Ltd is a UK-based company providing B2B and B2C services across the agri-food value chain. We enhance productivity and profitability, by providing support to implement circular business models, and facilitating direct trade and enhanced provenance along the supply chain. We work with a range of commodities including: wines, beers and spirits; coffee and tea; cocao; rice; fruits and vegetables. We operate globally, including in Latin and South America, India, North America, the Caribbean and Europe.

Between them, the two principals, Dr. Nicholas Head and Dr. Terry Tudor have over 20 years’ experience in the fields of sustainability, circular economy, retail and logistics, and have worked in academia, consultancy and industry.

What we do

Our services enable our customers to integrate circular business models and traceability into their strategies and operations, increasing their productivity and ultimately their profitability. Our focus is primarily on creating positive change at the upper end of the value chain, i.e. for the farmers and agri-food producers, beyond that provided by certification. Working with partners, we utilise blockchain technology to not only enable traceability, but to utilise their resources more efficiently and effectively, thus achieving greater productivity and profitabilit.

Case studies

Incorporating the principles of circular business models

We are currently undertaking work for the British Coffee Association on progression towards a circular economy position within the UK coffee sector and its value chain. The project is looking at progress to date, opportunities for further development, evidence of new circular business models which may be implemented and barriers to such implementation (e.g. technological and regulatory).

Traceability/provenance

Telling the story of producers and farmers, and helping to enhance their productivity, quality assurance and ultimately profitability underpins everything we do. For example, we are working with Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) in Latin America to examine how climate smart approaches could be combined with traceability to enhance productivity and profitability for farmers and producers in Latin America. We are also working with various partners, including the Centre for Citizenship, Enterprise and Governance (CCEG), Harper Adams University and the University of Northampton to examine the use of blockchain technologies along the agri-food value chain.

Facilitating import and export

We facilitate the import and export of a range of products including coffee from Peru, Costa Rica and India; tea, fruits and vegetables from India; wine from Europe and Brazil; and vodka from Mexico, as well as the export of gin and beers outside of the UK. Exporting can be a challenge, particularly for small and medium sized companies. However, when done strategically, it can lead to increased market share and profitability.

Market analyses

Disparate data exists for agri-food commodities and market segments. However, the effective analysis of these data is often lacking. We work across a range of commodities, including wines, beers and spirits, coffee, cocoa, rice, tea and fruits and vegetables. Our expert analyses allow clients to understand the key issues, identify opportunities and develop bespoke recommendations that work.
